July and summer is ON
Lucas, a veteran Seeker surfer arrived and straight away got in on some decent sized drops on the 8 footer! Maria Kuzma came all the way from NZ for a Seeker visit! (OK, I lied, she was in Italy checking out some architecture for her studies, and thought to hop on a flight to visit us!) Maria competes on the Freeride World Tour in the European winter, representing Völkl and Roxy. We’re a big fan and even the dolphins came to greet her in the surf.
Liana was our first guest ever from Ireland, and shared some fun sessions at the home bay and even at Villarube! We went for an unlikely surf check and scored the break almost all to ourselves, with waist to shoulder high peeler! An old friend from our shaping seasons at Diedamskopf, Andre came to the camp and had his first go at surfing! It was a bit frustrating for him, as a good shredder on snow and skate, but he got a little experience in, and will no doubt be back for more! Bianca also just started to surf. An artist with a fresh eye… we hope that she will seriously consider making a t-shirt design for us!
Anna and Karin came for some mid-July summer fun. Consistently sunny days is keeping these ladies on the beach way too long! Watching between sessions is a great way to learn about the surf. Felipo and Mateo is out there with the long boards showing off their classic style. Flo learned to put the board in the curl and walk up to the nose! Now the Austrian boys have arrived with a Lichtmachine (Alternator) problem that held them up in France a couple of day. Into the weekend we have a full house, and Miguel of White Shark Surfboard is also bringing our new hand shaped surfboards!
Party WAVES and High 5's
In the past few weeks we had mellow early summer surf condition, and small windows of bigger swell. Football season gave us a good reason to hit up the bars, both in Valdovino and Ferrol!
With a few beginners and a few intermediate surfers, we had some fun sessions where party waves were not frowned upon. Watch out though, laughing as you fall into the water can equal to a lot of salt water intake.

- Fabien got a good kite session in just before his 6-days stay ended.... too short!
Fabien of Four10skiing.com showed up for a short week, and with his kite surf gear! Lucky for us, conditions didn’t allow for him to have all the fun alone, and he was out there surfing old school style with just a surfboard under him.
Maik came from Mayrhofen to keep the Seeker vibe alive with his yogi ways. In the surf, he got a lot of action on his own board, which Iberia damaged a little on the way down:( He also enjoyed riding the foamy, both in big and small surf! We call the beginner boards foamies, as they are much softer then the epoxy boards, perfect for the first days in the surf. So big and floaty, they catch waves so early!
Ruza got herself into a little bit of situation when her board damaged her teeth, and she also needed a couple of stitches from the ER. Luckily Ferrol’s hospital had her in and out in less than an hour. This happened right before her departure, but she had reported via Facebook that she is all fixed up. Julia came from Cologne but has surfed many summers in Portugal.
Wow that's amazing!
During one of the sunset sessions in early June, Flo watched Nils disappear into a barreling wave, and just as he thought that it must have hurt, he watched Nils come charging out the doggie door exit! Just 3 years of surfing and Nils got a barrel! We’re super stoked for him and we are thankful for his company here at Valdovino for the 3rd summer in a row!

- Sunrise surf...
Pinti is back for more filming action. He left us end of May, but is more for some surf and sun. He’ll be around into July which means more edits! We’ve seen some summer conditions in the surf this June. We surfed the home bay a lot, which is very nice as we can watch from home with binoculars what’s peaking along the beach, all the way to Lago.

- Frankie! Little dog with a big personality!
The Rohrmoser Roman came by with Bella on his way back to the mountains from Portugal. He had spent a month down there with some Zillertaler homies and he showed us some of his moves chasing for action. Early month we also had new addition to Team Zillertal… Lisa, Hannes, and their new dog Frankie. Hannes scored some waves for himself each day and then went to work as Lisa’s instructor. Mini-dog Frankie explore the jungle that was our front lawn all month, and also made friends with Beltscha and Jefe, our resident dogs. Hannes is ready for the artificial wave to be built in Mayrhofen!

- Mellow found a nice trail for some extreme action.
Mellow and Babsi came by to surf with us as well! They explore the area near Ponzos, for some biking options. Flo works for Mellow Constructions in the winter months building up snowparks, but Mellow and Co. is hard at work through the year for snow and bikeparks. The new Bikepark Guide should be in a store near you! The trail he found here are not in there, but Mellow approved it! Check out his video on our blog!

- Tamara as captured by Clark. A free-spirit!
A new guest from the land of Cheese and Chocolate is Tamara has surfed Australia and paid her dues there, knows all about the pecking order, and got in on the action straight away. Nice style on the late drops Tamara! Grip it and Rip it! Tamara convinced her flatmate Daniela to come to Seeker Surf Camp. Daniela transferred her climbing abilities to up and cruising on a fun board in just a week’s time. Lessons with Felipo definitely helped her through the foamie sessions into a more progressive shape. Our partner surf school has moved to our beach this month, and it will make for easy lesson arrangements through the peak summer months.

- Clark in shorts!
Who else? Team America!!! Haha. My stateside friends crossed the pond and came around for some Galician surf! The water has been warm and as Clark is used to frigid waters, he was able to catch some waves in shorts! Janelle also got some bikini surf in on a sunny pre-summer day. Courtney’s amazing cooking skills kept us fueled for paddling. Eggplant Parmesan has NEVER tasted so good! Such simple streamlined recipes! She needs to trace her adapted recipes, and do up a BLOG for us kitchen novices!

- Enjoying a nice lunch at our favorite seafood restaurant.
More from Team Ladies is Heidi, Ruza, Jade and myself. We definitely enjoyed some fun times over at the south end of the bay, and on some lucky occasions, some fun ones here on the homebreak with dolphins! Good job to all the sessions surfed, and waves caught! Enough of this talk, the tide is high and surf's up! We still have some availability into peak season. If you have time and want to come, write us a mail with your available dates!
May Madness

- Janelle on photo duty. I don't know what to do with my arms.
The video is out! Big ups to Julian for putting together a sick edit. He even caught me on a wave! Filming and shooting is no joke, and I confess that I’ve been surfing way more than I’ve been shooting. But it’s ok! It’s was my birthday month so I did whatever I wanted! Which basically is surfing eating chilling and sleeping!
Team Swiss came around for the last week of the month, and we had a big mix of old and new friends in the house! We went down the home bay for a surf session, and we saw dolphins! Unfortunately, Dani screamed, “It’s a whale!” And she got offended and left. haha. Dani thanks for getting every Team Swiss member to sign the skate deck for my birthday, and also double thanks for donating money to our Support Ghana efforts! I now nominate you as Team Captain for the best team performance ever at Seeker Surf Camp!
We’ve been eating really well, especially with the May/June camp assistant Jade around, who is a vegetarian with amazing cooking skills. Her Veggie Korma is delicious, and her surfing is progressing so fast! Just don’t ask her how many waves she caught, she is pretty tough on herself and will say "none, 1 maybe 2."
To satisfy the carnivore beast in Team Swiss and Team X-treme, we went all out for the last supper... BOOM! Stefan cooked up the ultimate Fleischkuchen, and it was amazing. Look out for it in the Seeker Surf cookbook, coming soon in efforts to raise money for the African surfers to represent:)
Surfwise, this May has been surprisingly mellow. I don’t feel beat up at all! We had some encouraging foamie days out here at the homebreak. Peaks down the home bay opened up more options when size picked up. I caught a birthday barrel. I’m claiming it and I don’t care that no one saw. We spent a couple of days away on the area’s beaches just to get some Vitamin D in us, and watch the tide go from low to high high.
Thanks for the feast Anastasia! Stuffed mushrooms and Jamón warpped Asparaguses! Doc Snyder is back with a proper tide chart for the house. YES. We’re working on high-fiving on a party wave tomorrow. Come surf with us already!
We're HERE! It's ON!

- Stopping for a surf in Zarautz. Van super-packed!

- Surf checking. If you don't go, you don't know.
The beginning of another summer on the Galician coast! From what I’ve gathered from the locals, the weather has been on the rough side in April. With a lot of wind and rain, even on the coast. We arrived to sunshine on Saturday night, but there has been sporadic rain every day.

- Santa Comba... massive!!! And no we didn't.

- Oh Cristina.
The drive from Innsbruck is a long one. We had started last week on Wednesday evening, after an epic “last” pow day of the season. We were meant to leave on Tuesday, but just as perfect surf condition is hard to come by, so is perfect snow condition. We had it pretty good up at Hintertux glacier. Ran into a sweet crew and we quickly had ourselves a posse of 7! Oh yes we were on the risky side of living but we all made it down save and sound. We didn’t even have to deploy any avalanche airbags so there… where do I get my stamp for my 18th season snowboarding?

- Beautiful!
Before arriving in Galicia, we got in the water to overhead surf at Zarautz. The ocean basically wanted to kill me, and I didn’t make it out, but Flo caught a nice one right out front of my struggle zone so I got to cheer for him… at least. Martin was taking photos, but he had just gotten a call at the exact moment and missed it. haha. The guys had a surf at La Triangular the next day when I laid low at Joseba’s crib (that rain in Basque country was brutal!) They said the current was strong, but every session is a good session when you are just getting back in the game!

- Flo! First in...
So we headed out after another nights rest for Galicia. Here has been windy. But today the swell dropped significantly to raise the surfability. Strong off-shore is a better than strong on-shore so… Some barrels materialized… and are still materializing here in front of the house, but we surfed the south side of the bay earlier today and it was FUN!

- Homebreak barreling.
I finally took my own advice and rode the 6’10” Cortez. I love this board. Waves were fun, and everyone in the water seemed happy on this beautiful holiday. It was crowded enough on the corner but there were other peaks so we stayed in for hours, and over did ourselves a bit. I can hardly type now, and it’s not looking like I’ll make it in again this evening.
May is looking like it’ll be a lot of fun. We’re full from the 24th of May until the 11th of June. July and August we’re basically wide open. So check on the summer flights NOW!!! - Marilyn

- Testing out the home break. 9pm surf.
